Resumen

Prehistoric human settlement in the high-altitude rainforest has traditionally been attributed to the Late Horizon (A.D. 1476-1532) eastward expansion of northern highland cultures during the time of Inca hegemony in northern Peru. This occupation is believed to have been short-lived; poor soils for agriculture and loss of the Inca imperial support system are typically blamed for the ultimate abandonment of the area.
